Bars in Clarkdale

This is the shortest bar crawl in Arizona. 10-12 Lounge is at 910 Main Street. Clarkdale Newstand is at 911. They are opposite each other in the middle of a town built by a copper company in 1912, and you can see one from the other.

Clarkdale Newstand serves pizza and other food alongside the drinks, which makes it the one to head for if the evening needs feeding as well as watering.

Why Clarkdale looks like this

Clarkdale was built as a company town for the smelter, laid out deliberately rather than grown, and the center still reads that way: a park, a broad Main Street, and buildings in a row. It has about four thousand people. Two bars facing each other on the same street is not a thin offering for a town that size; it is the whole social center of it.

What else is within a few minutes

The Verde Canyon Railroad leaves from the Clarkdale depot for a three-and-a-half to four-hour run into the canyon, and it has its own bar on board. Tuzigoot National Monument is five minutes away. Old Town Cottonwood, with its strip of tasting rooms and restaurants, is about ten minutes, and Jerome is fifteen minutes up the hill, with a handful of bars and the best view in the valley from most of them.

If you are making an evening of it rather than a stop, Old Town is where you park once and walk; the Old Town guide covers it. Do note that the road up to Jerome is a series of switchbacks with a long drop on one side, and it is not a drive to do having had a few.
