Policy
Privacy policy
Short version: we keep only what you give us when you sign in, post, vote or sign up, and we never sell it. Ads are from Google, which asks for your consent where the law requires it. You can ask us to delete anything we hold by email.

Who we are
Verde Valley Directory (https://verdevalleydirectory.com) is an independent website run by one person in the Verde Valley, Arizona. It is not a government site. Questions about this policy go to support@verdevalleydirectory.com.
What runs today
- Ads from Google. Pages may show Google AdSense ads. Google sets its own cookies under its policy. Where the law requires consent (for example in the EU, the UK and Switzerland, and in US states with opt-out rules), Google shows its own consent message before personalized ads, and offers a link to change your answer later. We do not see or store that answer.
- Sign-in. To submit, vote, review or comment you sign in with Google or Microsoft. We store your name as that provider shows it, your email, and the provider's account id. We never see or store a password.
- Forms: corrections, claims, removals, events, new listings. We store what you type, the date, and a one-way hash of your IP address, and use it only to act on your request and reply. Forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots; Turnstile may set a short-lived cookie under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Votes. A vote stores the vote, the item, the date, and a one-way hash of your IP address and browser type, which lets us count one vote per person per day. We cannot turn it back into your address.
- Reviews and comments. Your name as shown by the sign-in provider and the text you post are public; your email is not. Reviews are moderated under our moderation policy.
- Newsletter. Signing up stores your email and the date with our newsletter provider, beehiiv, under its own privacy policy. Every issue has an unsubscribe link.
- No analytics. We do not count visitors yet. When we do it will be Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies, and this page will say so before it is switched on.
- Local storage. Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your own browser.
- Hosting and storage. The site runs on Cloudflare, which may keep short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) under its own privacy policy. Sign-ins, submissions, votes and reviews live in a Cloudflare D1 database in the United States. We share data only with the services that run the site (Cloudflare, Google for ads, beehiiv, our email provider, and the sign-in provider you choose). We do not sell or rent personal data.
Listing data is in a file we build the site from. It holds business contact details, not personal data about readers.
Planned, not running yet
Each of these will be turned on only after this page says so, with the date at the top changed.
Analytics
We plan to use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies and does not track you across sites.
Outbound link counting
Some links may later go through a /go/ redirect so we can count clicks and tell a business how many people we sent. That would log the listing, the page you were on, the time, and a hashed IP. Some of these links may be affiliate links; see the disclosures page.
Sponsors and featured listings
If featured listings go on sale, payment would go through Stripe. We would store your name, business, email, what you bought, and when it ends. We would never see your full card number. Stripe's policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
Your rights (CCPA, GDPR, and everyone else)
Wherever you live, you can email support@verdevalleydirectory.com to:
- ask what we hold about you,
- ask us to correct it,
- ask us to delete it,
- unsubscribe from the newsletter (or use the link in any issue).
We answer within 30 days. We will ask you to confirm from the email address on file. We do not discriminate against anyone for making a request. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front. Reviews you posted may be kept in an anonymized form if removing them would break a thread, unless you ask otherwise.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child gave us data, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. Big changes get a note on the home page for 30 days.
