Wineries in Camp Verde

Camp Verde’s wineries are not a cluster. Unlike Old Town Cottonwood, where you park once and walk, or Page Springs Road, where they sit along a few miles of the same lane, these three are scattered across a large township. Plan the driving, and plan who is doing it.

Alcantara Vineyard & Winery is on Grapevine Way, on the river toward Cottonwood, and it is the one with a restaurant as well as a tasting room. That makes it the natural anchor of an afternoon rather than a stop on the way through.

Clear Creek Vineyard & Winery is east on Highway 260, at number 4053, with outdoor seating by a pond.

Salt Mine Wine is a small operation on West Salt Mine Road.

Hours out here move with the season and with how busy the weekend is, and small wineries change them at short notice. Each listing page shows what we hold and when we last checked. Ringing ahead on a weekday is not a wasted call.

Where this sits in the valley

Three wineries is a fraction of what the Verde Valley has. The wine trail guide covers all of it by area: Page Springs and Cornville, Old Town Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Jerome, here, and Sedona.

If you have one afternoon and want the most tasting for the least driving, this is not the corner to start in; Old Town Cottonwood or Page Springs is. If you are staying in Camp Verde, or coming off I-17, these three are what is on your doorstep, and Alcantara in particular is a genuine destination rather than a consolation.

The practical bit

Tasting fees vary and we do not hold them. Plan a driver or a ride: the roads between these three are dark, unlit and full of deer after sunset, and that is a worse combination than the distance suggests.

Alcantara Vineyard & Winery is a tasting room and restaurant on Grapevine Way in Camp Verde, Arizona. The winery is family owned and farms its own vineyard. The tasting room is open daily from late morning to late afternoon, and no reservation is needed. There is a restaurant on site, and all ages are welcome. Tours and tastings are offered, and the winery also hosts weddings and other events. Wine can be bought on site or through the online store, and there is a wine club. The winery is a stop on the Verde Valley Wine Trail and lists Cottonwood, Camp Verde and Sedona as the towns it serves.

The tasting room is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon, and closed the rest of the week. Outdoor seating is available. Because the room is open only three days a week, check before driving out, especially if the winery is showing at a festival that weekend. Salt Mine Wine makes and pours wine at 536 West Salt Mine Road in Camp Verde. The tasting room is open Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5 in the afternoon. It is a small vineyard and winery rather than a large operation, so the room can fill on a busy weekend. The phone number is (928) 910-2075, and there is an email address for questions. Call before you drive out if you are coming with a group or want to know what is open for tasting that day. Ask about bottle sales, and about whether a reservation is needed.
