Roofing in Sedona

Hale’s Roofing is the local one. Roof Maxx of Prescott Valley, AZ is, as the name says, based in Prescott Valley, which is well over an hour away over Mingus Mountain or round through the valley.

That distance is the thing to weigh, and not because a company from out of town cannot do good work. It is about what happens afterwards. A roof problem shows up in a storm, and a storm is exactly when a contractor an hour and a half away is least able to come. Ask directly how callbacks and warranty visits are handled before the deposit, not after.

Sedona roofs have their own problems

Snow. Sedona is at about 4,300 feet and it does snow here, not often and not for long, but enough that a roof has to shed a wet load and handle freeze and thaw. That is not a Phoenix problem and a Phoenix solution does not always account for it.

The monsoon. A summer storm finds every weakness in one afternoon, and the run-off volume off a roof here in twenty minutes is startling.

Sun. Eleven months of intense UV on anything not designed for it.

Appearance rules. Parts of Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek have design guidelines or HOA rules about color and material, meant to keep roofs from glaring against the red rock. Check what is permitted before choosing a product, because discovering it after installation is expensive.

Questions before you sign

What the workmanship warranty covers and for how long. Whether tear-off and disposal of the old roof are in the price. Who pulls the permit. And for the out-of-town option, what a callback in February actually looks like.
