Restaurants in Sedona

Eating in Sedona: the spread along 89A, the early closings, the county line that decides who inspects the kitchen, and why the Village of Oak Creek is often the easier plan.

Sedona has no restaurant row. The addresses we hold are spread along State Route 89A, east and west, with others out on side roads and up the canyon. So eating here is a driving decision, and in season the drive and the parking take longer than the meal does.

The clock is the other surprise. Among the Sedona restaurants with hours on record, the most common closing time is 8 PM. There are later kitchens, a few that go to 10 PM and one to midnight, but they’re the minority. The common opening time is 8 AM, and breakfast is better covered here than in most of the valley. If you want dinner at nine, check the listing instead of assuming.

Anywhere with a view or a patio, make a reservation, and make it early. Plenty of people from the wider valley skip the whole problem and eat in the Village of Oak Creek instead. It’s a few minutes south on SR 179, several of the same operators have kitchens there, and the parking is free and easy.

Our records for Sedona are thinner than for Cottonwood. About three quarters of the Sedona restaurants we list have a website, and we hold hours for only about half of them. Call the number on the listing page rather than trusting a screenshot of last season’s hours.

One local oddity is worth knowing. Sedona sits across the Yavapai and Coconino county line, which is why the city publishes maps for both counties. Which county health department licenses and inspects a restaurant depends on which side of that line its address falls. On the Yavapai side, that’s Yavapai County Community Health Services, working under the 2017 FDA Food Code.
