Wine tasting rooms in Old Town Cottonwood

Old Town Cottonwood is the one place in the Verde Valley where you can taste at several rooms without getting back in the car. Six of the seven rooms we list are on or just off North and South Main Street, on flat ground, a few minutes’ walk apart. Park once, near Main, and walk the rest of the afternoon. That’s the whole reason this cluster exists, and it’s the main thing it has over Page Springs or Jerome.

Keep in mind that these are tasting rooms, not vineyards. The vines are mostly out at Page Springs and Cornville and up on the hills. What’s on Main Street is where the wine gets poured. If you want to see fruit on the vine, that’s a different drive.

Go in the afternoon. Six of the seven rooms we list have hours on record, five of those six are open seven days, and the common opening is noon. Closings cluster at 5, 7 and 8 PM, and the latest close we hold is 8:30 PM. So the window runs roughly noon to seven, which makes a tasting afternoon run into an early dinner rather than a late night. The bars a block away are what stays open after that.

A few practical things. Tasting fees change from room to room and we don’t list them, so ask when you arrive. Groups of six or more should call ahead, because most of these rooms are small. Not all of them serve food. The seventh room, up on Verde Heights Drive rather than in Old Town, takes visitors by appointment and has no hours on record, so call that one first. And plan on a driver, since the rooms are walkable from each other but the drive home isn’t.
