Preschools in Cottonwood

All four of these are licensed child care centers, and we hold the state license number and the licensed capacity for each one. Capacity is the maximum number of children the license allows on site, not the number enrolled, and not the number in any one room.

Two are faith-based: Hilltop is Christian, Immaculate Conception is Catholic and attached to the parish on Bill Gray Road. Mariposa is a developmental preschool, which is a different thing again and the one to ask about if a child needs additional support.

What to do with a license number

The number is the useful part of this page. Arizona Department of Health Services licenses child care centers, inspects them, and publishes what it finds. Take the number above, look the center up on the department’s site, and read the inspection history rather than the marketing. You are looking for what was cited, how often, and whether it was fixed.

That record will tell you more in ten minutes than a tour will, and it is the one thing a center cannot present selectively.

Then go and look

After the paperwork, the questions that matter are ordinary ones: the ratio of staff to children in your child’s room specifically, how long the staff have been there, what happens when a child is ill, and what the day actually looks like. Ask to visit at a busy time rather than a quiet one.
