Landscaping in Cottonwood

Verde River Growers is a nursery, at 300 South Rocking Chair Ranch Road. It sells plants. It is on this list because when you are landscaping a yard in this climate, where the plants come from matters as much as who puts them in, and a local grower has stock that has already survived a Verde Valley summer. It will not, however, send anyone to your house.

When the license matters, and when it does not

For mowing, trimming, planting and general upkeep, it largely does not. That work is not contracting, and Arizona also exempts a job where labor and materials together come to under $1,000, the work is minor, and no permit is needed.

It starts to matter the moment the job involves a retaining wall, irrigation plumbed into the mains, grading, or anything a permit touches. That is design-and-build territory, which is why the one company here describing itself that way is also one of the licensed ones.

The local question worth asking

Ask what any proposed planting needs in July, and what it will cost to water. Plenty of plants survive a Cottonwood summer only on a drip line you will be paying for every month. A company that answers that question honestly is worth more than one that quotes cheaply.
