Churches in Clarkdale

Three churches, three traditions, all within a few streets of each other in a town of about four thousand people.

Saint Cecilia Catholic Mission, 850 Main Street, is Roman Catholic. The word mission in the name is not decorative: it usually means a congregation served from a parish elsewhere rather than one with its own resident priest, which in practice affects when Mass is said here. Check the schedule rather than assuming a Sunday morning.

Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, 330 Scenic Drive, serves both Clarkdale and Cottonwood.

St. Thomas of the Valley Episcopal Church is at 889 1st South Street.

What we hold, and what we do not

We list the address, the denomination where the record gives one, and a phone number or website where we have them. We do not hold service times, and we are not going to guess at them, because a service time that is out of date is worse than no service time at all: it sends somebody to a locked door.

Each listing links to the church’s own page where there is one, and that is where the current schedule lives. In a valley this size, ringing is also a perfectly normal thing to do.

The Verde Valley has a wider spread of congregations than three, across Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Sedona and Jerome; the full churches list covers them. Clarkdale’s three are notable mostly for how close together they are, which makes this an easy town to visit a couple in one morning if you are working out where you want to settle.

Several congregations here also run the practical things a small town needs, food assistance and the like. That is not something our records capture reliably, so it is worth asking directly.
