Pharmacies in Camp Verde

CVS Pharmacy, 522 Finnie Flat Road Suite A. Walgreens, 475 West Finnie Flat Road. Two chains, same street, a few hundred yards between them, and that is the whole of Camp Verde’s pharmacy provision.

Both also function as general stores, which in a town this size means they are where you go at nine in the evening for things that are not medicine at all.

The thing to plan around

Neither is a 24-hour pharmacy. Chain pharmacy hours have been cut back across rural Arizona in recent years, and the counter often closes earlier than the shop does, which catches people out: the doors are open, the lights are on, and the pharmacist went home an hour ago.

That has two practical consequences worth acting on rather than discovering.

Repeat prescriptions. Order before you are down to the last few days, not after. If a medication needs ordering in, a day’s gap becomes a weekend’s gap very easily.

Anything urgent after hours means a drive. Cottonwood is about twenty-five minutes and has more provision; beyond that it is Prescott or Flagstaff, an hour either way.

Transfers and the practical questions

If you are moving here, a prescription can be transferred between pharmacies by phone; you do not need to start again with a prescriber. Ring the new pharmacy rather than the old one and give them the bottle details.

Worth asking either counter: whether they deliver, which some rural locations do; whether they do vaccinations, which saves a trip to a surgery; and whether they can do a 90-day supply, which halves the number of times you are standing in this queue.
